UGLY

The New England Patriots were just plain ugly today. And ugly is the only word that can describe today's game against Carolina. After last week's performance against the Raiders, this week's performance was just unexpected.

Some of the numbers just jump off the page:

  • 12 penalties(!) for 86 yards.

  • 4-14 on third down conversions.

  • Fumbles lost: 2

  • Rushing yards: 36! in only 16 rushes for 2.4 yds/carry

  • Red Zone efficiency: 100%

  • 100% efficiency in the red zone really caps off everything else. They only got into the red zone once all day. Maybe we're spoiled here in New England. Maybe we expect too much. Maybe we just aren't used to seeing failure on the football field. But this game was unbelievably ugly.

Don't care. The Bucs did pretty good though.

I was at the Patriots v Panthers came yesterday. I was so disapointed. I live down here in Charlotte and EVERYONE has been ragging on me. What happened to our Super Bowl team??

I'm hoping that yesterday's absurdity was like Miami's game last year. Just a blip.

A lot of people are talking about how the Pats have such a rough schedule ahead. Many are 'hoping' the Pats go 3-3 during the first 6 games. I even heard Boomer this morning say that. Personally, I expect them to go 4-2.

Yep, the Bucs did well. Actually, I had predicted the Bills would win this game outright, and the Bucs proved me wrong. Have they returned to form?

I would be excited about Williams, too. "I'm definitely in pain, but you never feel good," he added. "I'm always going to hurt." With 2 100+ games, he's off to an impressive start.

Also, I just looked at their schedule: GB, Detroit, Jets, Miami, Bye week and then SF. It's looking like a great fall for Tampa Bay.
